After this many private airlines began opening up and providing transportation as well as airmail, in fact, the first transcontinental airmail route was established from New York to San Francisco in 1920. Dare devil Charles A. Lindenberg piloted a single engine plane across the Atlantic from New York to Paris, winning $25,000 and becoming a hero to the American people, giving the aviation just the boost it needed to really take off.
Effect:

This resulted in an overall heightened standard of living for all Americans. Hundreds of oil rigs sprung up in Texas, Oklahoma, and California industrializing what was once wilderness and challenging the railroad companies who were continuously loosing passengers. Owning a car quickly made the jump from being a luxury to being necessity, the car became a symbol of freedom that was necessary to have in order to gain self respect. The invention of the car made America into a nation of commuters but at the same time led to many injuries and fatalities. It aided criminals in making a quick get away and it provided new opportunities for the youth of America to rebel and get themselves into trouble.

The invention of the airplane created a faster and more efficient means of mail carriage, taking business and power away from the railroads that once ruled the nation. In addition, the airplane made the American people feel as if the oceans were not as vast as they once had seemed, ruining the idea of American Isolationism. On the down side, this new invention caused many accidents, injuries, and fatalities, and provided the opportunity for development of new lethal weapons like air bombs.
